This is what you call a "working vacation". I'm down at Mom's - she and Bob are helping out with Rowan so I can go back through all of my computer files, get them backed up and organized, and get some of this stuff uploaded for you guys and gals.
12:30 p.m. Here's the first update... PHOTOS of tracks in the mud. These are really great pics, with detailed photos of the casts made as well. Enjoy! I'm going to go root around and see what else I come up with. :)
1 p.m. Got another gallery done (that's the time -consuming part)... more photos. These ones show tracks found in the snow. The most fasicnating thing about these photos is how the tracks are RAISED, caused by the snow melting around the deeply-compacted snow within the tracks themselves. |

If you're going to go traipsing through millions of acres of forest, WHEN is the best time to look for bigfoot? WHERE do you look? What are most eyewitnesses DOING when they have an encounter? How are the creatures REACTING?
I've got a really cool new update for you guys and gals tonight... Each year, I go through the database and cull the data for the year. In 2007, I posted the results on the data page. Now that Oregonbigfoot.com has received TWICE the reports that we originally had, I thought it would be interesting to go in and do it again this year, and compare the results.
THE RESULTS ARE ASTOUNDING. Particularly in light of the fact that, if Bigfoot is simply the figment of overactive imaginations, the data wouldn't look like this. Have a look... I think you'll be as amazed as I was. |

In this update, I've updated the photo gallery share with you some fascinating Native American masks depicting the Bukwas, Wild Man of the Woods, and the Dsonoqua, Wild Woman of the Woods.
Also, check out the bottom of the photo gallery for... yep, you got it. The photo of me and a 9 footer that Freda and Mike have been clamoring for on the forum. *grin* I finally found it! |

Trying something new today... it seems like everyone has a blog these days. I've always wanted one. But I thought an audio blog might be more fun and personal than a plain-old written one.
So here's the first entry. My hope is that these ramblings will be food for thought and perhaps create some dialogue in the forum. Please feel free to leave comments, or questions/topics for upcoming blogs in the members forum. :)

| Now that I'm (hopefully) getting the hang of this mommy thing, I'm trying to update more frequently. Tonight, I've uploaded an update to Nancy's experience - Nancy revisited the area recently and reports on her findings there. |
September 24 , 2007 |
Lots to update today... as promised, I'm (slowly) going back through my files and uploading all of the goodies that I can find.
New in the audio section: Leo Selzer, member and fellow researcher in British Columbia, sends this clip of a long wailing call recorded in August of 2007.
Then, on September 2, 2007, Leo emailed me excitedly with this audio recording.
Also in the video section, a video clip I received in May of 2005. more...
And finally - an exciting new eyewitness account, photographs of the location and more... |

The new stuff is tagged "new". :) |

The redesign and housekeeping here in the members' section is offically finished. I had needed to fix the journal pages, the first Snohomish scream recording, and the link to the Sci-Fi Channel recording. All of those are fixed now. (Thanks to Jeff for the heads up on those!)
I've got a bit more to do on the public site and then I'll be working on a new update here.
Just a reminder for those of you who have not yet registered for the members' forum, click the link marked "FORUM" and sign up. Membership to the forum is included, but registration is separate, since it pulls from a different database. You MUST use your same Oregonbigfoot.com username to register. Don't miss out on it! It's loads of fun and full of WONDERFUL, friendly folks! |
April 21, 2007 |
After a brief (well, not so brief, according to Freda, who needed her forum fix - hee!) issue with the login script today, that's working now. As you can see, there have been a few changes in the navigation of the members' section. The navigation links are now on the LEFT. You have your own nav bar! Woo-hoo! I considered leaving it as it was, with the links on the top, but my darling guy Skye told me he kept getting lost in here and ending up back at the public site. It just wasn't intuitive enough for new members. Hopefully, you folks will find it more user-friendly.
Also, I'm working on each section as I go, so if you click on a link and get kicked out to the "join" page, or the help page, just please bear with me. It will all be working shortly. There are hundreds of separate pages in here that each need to be reprogrammed individually, and this housekeeping is long overdue.
(update: It's after 11 p.m. and I've hand coded a total of 115 pages in here today. The audio and video sections are fully back up and running and you SHOULD be able to expect everything in there to work properly If it doesn't, please let me know. I'm headed for some much-needed rest now and I'll get back on fixing the rest of the sections in the morning! :))
As soon as this is done, I'll be adding more content, so please keep checking in. If you run into any weird issues that I haven't covered here, please shoot me an email. I'm always available to help. :)

I'm doing a much-needed cosmetic and navigational overhaul on the entire site. Most of the changes at the moment will be cosmetic. I'm trying to get it done as quickly as possible, but please excuse the dust, and if you see a page that looks weird, that's why. As always, if you find something that doesn't work for you, please email me the URL and a description of the problem and I'll get it fixed just as soon as I can. :) - Autumn

In this update, you'll find The Orting Files: Inside the Valley of the Skookum. It's a look, through journals, letters and photographs, at the events surrounding my family's encounters in the late 1970's. There are over 62 pages of documents, as well as 38 photos. It took a while: it was a lot of digging through the box for everything, scanning and working in Photoshop to change names, optimizing and enhancing photographs... I hope you enjoy it. Please be sure to read the introduction on the next page to familiarize yourself with what you're about to see.

As most of you know, my first child, Rowan Fae, was born on December 11th. As such, the members' section and newsletter have been on hiatus while I've dealt with the challenges of becoming a new mom. A newborn demands (and a mother gladly gives) almost every waking moment, and it's taken some time to get into somewhat of a routine. My time is still greatly limited (especially since Rowan has developed colic), but I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things and will once again be updating the members' section on an increasingly regular basis.
Coming soon - The Orting Files: Inside the Valley of the Skookum
In subsequent updates to the members' section, I'll be sharing with you a multimedia inside look at the events chronicled in mom's book: The Valley of the Skookum. Join me as I revisit the events surrounding the ongoing encounters with Bigfoot that occurred during my childhood in Orting, Washington with photos, original letters and transcripts, videos and more.
If you haven't yet read the book, you can order an autographed copy from Mom here and follow along on the journey! :) |

Attention members: New video journal update today! On October 2, we ventured into an area of recent activity. Check out the broken trees... and the large impression in the embankment! This journal entry includes a LARGE video file - 12.6 MB to be exact -so it may take a while to load when you click the video icon. |

Today's updates:
Four new video files in the documentary bonus section. These clips are additional footage from the surveillance cameras.
Also, an update from Chanda with more ribbon photos. |
October 19, 2006 |
Well, the Sci-Fi show turned out better than I'd hoped. Amusing, entertaining... not documentary film at its best, but one can hardly hope for that anymore with the advent of "reality TV".
Exclusively for our members, I've uploaded the complete sound file of what we heard that night during the Sci-Fi expedition.
A brief background on the sound: We had gone to bed very late on the first night. Shortly after retiring to our tent, Skye and I were almost asleep when we began to hear something calling from the ridge above us. I scrambled to get the recorder running (a small Sony digital audio recorder with external mic). The calling continued as I began calling back to it, hoping the recorder was picking up the sounds.
The strange thing about these sounds was that the caller was solo, WAY up on a ridge above camp, and the sounds crossed the ridge quickly before fading down the back side. Was it coincidence that the caller waited until activity in camp had died down?
I've listened again to the sounds, and the more I listen to them, the more I'm struck by the likelihood that the noisemaker was NOT a coyote or owl. The sounds vary occasionally (which is inconsistent with owl hoots), seemed to be of a singular animal (which is strange for a coyote), and did not sound like any call I've heard from either animal. In addition, the intensity, frequency and response were intriguing... not to mention the volume (the caller was FAR up on the ridge), the speed at which the caller moved across the ridgeline, and the fact that the sounds "coincidentally" occured shortly after we retired to the tents.
There are incidences of the sound throughout the recording. I found them at :30, :48, :59, 1:13, 2:09, and 2:32. You'll hear me mimicking the pitch and intonation of individual sound after each call. At 2:49 we begin to get the the thermal camera out, and I continue calling to it as we do so.

The latest chat log from October 5th has been uploaded... there's a new page up above on your member links where all chat logs will be posted from here on out. I had to skip our Thursday chat this week - I was in Portland on business. We'll have a scheduled chat next week, however.
Also, I wanted to let all of you know first that Sci Fi Investigates: Bigfoot will be airing this Wednesday, October 18th at 10 p.m. Check your local listings to verify exact times and dates. This is the three-day expedition I mentioned going on a couple of months ago... Skye and I took the folks from Sci-Fi into the woods. I haven't seen the episode... but I hope they do the subject justice. I know I did my best. :)
Chanda has sent us some new photos of the twisted ribbons she referred to in the last journal entry. |
October 5, 2006 |
New music in members section: I've got more stuff to upload here in the next week... but today, per several members' requests, I uploaded a bunch more files and descriptions to the music section. Not Bigfoot-related, but I thought some of you might enjoy it. :) |

Yet another September update! See what happens when I get the documentary out of my hair? <grin>
First, I fixed the chat log. Slight programming issue... all better now. :) Come have a look at what we were talking about on Tuesday night.
Second, as promised, I've uploaded the first installment of documentary bonus features for members only! Included are all of the interviews which didn't make it onto the DVD due to time constraints. There are eight in all.
Enjoy! As always, you can discuss them here. |
September 22, 2006 |
The chat log from the first hosted members' chat has been posted. Thanks to those who were able to make it. For those of you who missed the chat, please make read the following note to be sure you're getting notifications! We'll have another one next week... |

If you're registered for the members' forum, you will have received the following update:
Hi folks,
A couple of things as promised. :)
First of all, the documentary is now available to MEMBERS ONLY for pre-order. Beat the rush and get your order in now! (I've ordered a first run of 360 copies but they'll go fast, so if you pre-order now, yours will be among the first to go out.) I anticipate receiving the first shipment to be here around October 3rd, and your DVD will ship shortly after that. To pre-order, go to http://www.oregonbigfoot.com/documentary.php You may order through PayPal or use the order for for snail mail orders.
Now... everybody jump up and down with me and say HURRAY!!!!! because this (*&@(*& thing is finally done! Hee.
The documentary is approximately 113 minutes total running time. There's over an hour of the movie itself, plus a half-hour of my presentation at the Bellingham Sasquatch Research Conference: Women in Sasquatch research. Also, tech videos and a blooper reel (which is hilarious... I giggle every time I watch it).
Second, we'll have our first HOSTED MEMBERS ONLY CHAT tonight, beginning at 5 pm, Pacific Standard Time. The chat link is on the main page (see below) when you log in to the members section. Simply enter your Oregonbigfoot.com member username and hit "Chat". Please join us if you can... I look forward to seeing you all there. :)

CHAT ROOM
I've installed a simple chat room for members... let me get a few more updates to the members section done and I'll schedule a hosted chat where we can all get together live. :) If you happen to get a roaring chat going before I get there, please send me an email and let me know it's happening. I may be at the computer and able to pop in and join you. :)
IMPORTANT!!!
Hosted chats will be announced through the members' forum MAIL-ALL function. It's really the only way I have to get in touch with all of you at a moment's notice. So if you're a member and HAVE NOT JOINED THE FORUM YET, please do so now or you'll miss out on annoucements like these! The forum registration link is on the upper righthand side of the main forum page. Please use your existing oregonbigfoot.com members' username and password to register. Thanks!
NOTES FROM AUTUMN
DOCUMENTARY UPDATE: After experiencing even more delays with getting the DVD off to the printers, it went out Fed-Ex yesterday, and today is in the (hopefully) competent hands of the replication company. I expect to have copies available around the first of the month. It will be available to members for ordering before it's available to the public... I will be posting an announcement here soon if you'd like to take advantage of the opportunity to pre-order.
VIDEO JOURNAL UPDATE: I've posted two new entires to the video journal of our recent trip to the Oakridge/McKenzie River area. Now that I'm not sitting here editing every day, I'll be able to get more of these posted. Also, coming soon: Documentary bonus stuff for members only, including additional eyewitness interviews, stills and footage that didn't make it onto the DVD.
|
Autumn's Journal - New for Fall 2006: I've created an updated version of my research journal (you know... the one on the public site which hasn't been updated since 2002???). This one, because it'll contain lots of video and audio goodies as well as photos, is for members only. I've got a bunch of private video clips from day trips, night hikes, etc. that I'll be adding periodically. This journal format allows me to add much more detail and background and will help me organize footage and keep all of you updated. It'll also make sure I've got that camera rolling non-stop while we're in the woods. <grin>
Check out the first entry from Detroit Lake... And, as always, please feel free to post comments/questions in the members forum.

In April , I did an interview with Eric Rucker for Channel 21 news in Bend, OR. I'm pretty picky about who I interview with for the media, since everyone always likes to turn the bigfoot phenomenon into a big joke. But Eric seemed sincere, so I agreed to do it.
He came to Eugene and did a 45-minute interview with me. And used three short clips of it. That's how it always works. <grin>
It turned out to be a somewhat serious piece, but as with all news agencies, he felt the need to present a "fair and balanced" report... which included a naturalist from the Bend area saying that she didn't believe the habitat was right for Sasquatch. While she didn't discount its existence altogether, it always irritates me when experts, who are only experts in their chosen field, attempt to postulate on Sasquatch theory when they've never paid much attention to the phenomenon...
You'll see me looking very tired here. The first trimester does that to you!
Anyway, here's the video. Enjoy, and feel free to post comments on the members forum. :)

July 4, 2006 |
Happy Fourth, everyone. I'll be posting more new stuff to the members section shortly. The documentary is finished and I'm putting the final touches on the bonus sections of the DVD (these include gear information, a video of my talk at the Bellingham Sasquatch Conference about women in bigfoot research, and... OF COURSE... a blooper reel. You can't go on a research expedition and film the whole thing without hilarity happening. <grin>)
The whole process of filming and editing this documentary has been grueling, and I'm not done yet. The first DVD covers the intial junket... we spent a total of a month in the Oregon wilderness in three different locations, and the other two will be featured on the second DVD, which will be available in a few months.
The reasons for splitting it up are two-fold... we came out of the woods with over 40 hours of footage and it wouldn't all fit on my hard drive. LOL Also, it's taken nearly a year just to get this part done. There have been many life changes going on for me during this time, including a substantial relocoation or two, a family illness, a new job, a new life, and my first baby on the way. The last year and a half have been trying... sometimes very sad and frightening. But I suppose change is always unnerving, even when it's for the better.
I'm happy to report, on a personal note, that life is wonderful now. Or would be, if I could just get this #*$&#* documentary finished and have time to concentrate on all the other projects waiting in the wings. I'd also like to take a moment to BREATHE at some point, reflect on upcoming motherhood and maybe enjoy being pregnant while I still am. <grin>
I just finished week 13 on Saturday, so I'm officially past the first trimester and the "danger zone". The doctor says things are fine. I won't bore you with any other details, but for those of you who are mothers and fathers, you'll understand that this is a magical and fascinating time for me.
Stay tuned for more cool stuff. :)

A new audio recording from Leo Selzer in Prince George, B.C.: Leo has recorded what may be a Sasquatch
|
April 30, 2006 |
Finally, as promised quite a while ago, I've pleased to offer a sneak preview of the upcoming documentary to you. It's still in post-production, I'm editing away like mad, but I wanted to share a taste of it with you and get some feedback.
A couple of notes about the documentary: This is my FIRST film production ever... so I'm a bit nervous about its release. We did it, AND the month-long field expedition, on a total cash budget of about $5000 (which included $3500 worth of equipment. We didn't quite eat Top Ramen all month, but close enough!).
I have produced, directed, written and edited the entire thing, including composing and recording the background music, so if any part of it stinks, I'll take the heat. :)
Native American Drone Flute |
For the flute music in the beginning, I bought a Native American drone flute, which is a two-holed flute. One side plays like a normal wooden flute... the other hole plays a steady 'A' note as a background bass, which you'll hear in the recording. The tones are beautiful and rich. (I take it into the field with me regularly now to use as an audio attractant.) The first piece, which you'll hear in the intro, is this flute, acapella. The rest of the music was recorded using the flute, my Yamaha S80 keyboard and Sonar Cakewalk, a digital music recording and editing program. Please choose the file size most appropriate to your connection. The bigger the file size, the clearer the sound and video will be. These files are LARGE and will take several minutes to load... even longer depending upon your connection. Go get a cup of coffee! :)
