REPORT DETAIL

Description of event: When we returned to our truck after hunting untill dark, we stood by the truck and listened to this very, very, long bellow. It sounded like the noise that we heard on one of your shows, which prompted us to write this encounter. Until now, I just thought it might have been a bear. 3 of us agree that your call is what we heard. To describe the call, which came from the exact location that we were hunting about 1/4 mile away, It was about 4 times longer than what you used, and had more serious meaning at the begining and the end. It started as a long low moan, raising in tone and volume to almost a howl, then slowly toning down into an up and down verbrato and ended with a few ugh, ugh, ugh's. All in one large breath. It only did it one time. I have never heard such a sound in the woods in my entire 44 years of deer hunting. My nephew and son hinted as to it being a big foot or something like that, but I was not a believer nor afraid. If it had been daylight, I would have tracked down the source to solve the puzzle. Mind you, I had a muzzle loader in hand. My son and nefhew only had bow and arrows. They wouldn't have any part of it. They are still reluctant to go rifle hunting in that area. Last year we bravely returned to the same spot for rifle hunting, only to find a zillion hunters. The sawamp was dry and allowed other hunters to brave the terrain. They had all day Saturday to tromp the woods and scatter any wild life that may have been there, since the opener was on Sunday. We didn't even sight a blue jay.
