Location: dont know if you'll want to go here for this ,im sending this for F Y I. This happened in 1987 and was a "growl-snort"that fit no known description of any animal I've ever heard.The area is adjacent to Camp Lejeune;pie woods ,swamps and marshes and creeks.area is most probably more developed now.This happened on Sandy Ridge Rd off hwy 172 off hwy 24 in NC

Description of event: It was around 9Pm and I was getting out of the shower,I may have been coming in from a wargame or something,so i got a late shower.My then wife,whom at the time we were splitting up,called back to the bedroom wondering why the dogs were barking so much.Since our conversations were limited to basic info because of our marriage ending,I remember saying that "it might be some one walking down the road,I dunno!!"but I listen and I could here the neighborhood dogs going crazy.(this neighborhood was basically a strip and cluster of houses in the middle of nowhere then)I opened the window,and the dogs were barking so frantically,you could hear every dog that must have lived near by going crazy.at that time my then-wife yelled out the kitchen window "SHUTUP!!"and I thought 'way to go bigmouth,that'll do it'when from out of the woods behind us ,in seemingly responding to her shout,came this growl\snort sound.it was a big sound,a deep sound,such that it gave you the impression that whatever made this sound was big.My then-wife called back to me in a shaky scared voice-"Butch! that thing growled at me"she asked me what it was and I had no answer.It didnt sound like a bear,or a boar or maybe even remotely,a cougar(they DO exist in NC)It was a sound i'll never forget because it was a totally unfamiliar animal sound.Animals do not really "respond" to a verbal command unless they re domesticated.Wild animals just wonder on off.At the time Bigfoot didnt even enter my mind.It had to be a bear or a boar.The next day when i went to the base,I told afriend of mine in my unit about it.He jokingly said "it might be bigfoot! theres all kinds of weird stories about that shit all over this base!!"He also reminded me of the strange stories from when we went to the USMC Mountain Warfare Training Command in Bridgeport CA.that marines said they saw these things there,when we were there.To this day, I dont believe that that sound was a known animal
