Description of event: As I said, it's rural residental, the closest houses wewe about a mile away towards US 23. Behind the airport is a couple of hunting camps then swamp and woods all the way to the Au Sable river. 2 buddies and myself were walking around. It was pretty thick young jack pines, you couldn't see far unless you kneeled down. We walked around for about an hour then we smelled something really bad. It was very foul like old gym socks and wet dog. There was no wind. We thought something was dead so we went looking... about 10 min later something screamed at us. I've never heard a sound like this before. Then it started breaking a lot of branches and stomping around. It was making more noise than the 3 of us put together. We are not small fellas. We decided to leave. It was starting to get dark. It followed us making alot of noise. We cleared the trees at a dead run about 30 yards from the runway. We stopped at the runway. It stayed in the trees. Its about a half mile to the terminal, a small building half way down. It followed us to there. From there, it was dark all the way to the car. Two nights later we were at my buddie's house - one of the two that were with me previously - appx. a mile and half west of airport. Tawas lake is between the two locations (lots of houses on the side closest to town the back side is Tuttle marsh mostly woods all the way to Au Sable) Anyway, the house was the last house next to Tawas river. In winter you could see the end of the lake - really swampy. We were sitting up stairs in the bedroom listening to the stero. The window was open. All of a sudden that same smell. We shut off the stereo and we could hear something big going through the swamp. We decided we would follow it this time. We got downstairs and our other buddy drove up and got out of his car. It took off further down river. The road next to the house goes to the bend in the river, so we went that way. My brother and a couple of others grabbed big sticks and various other weapons. There were about 8 of us. We took off at the end of the road where there is a power station. The swamp ends there on this side of the river. There are houses the rest of the way on the other side. The swamp is pretty large. We stood around for about 20 min. Nothing happened, nobody wanted to go into the swamp so we decided to go back to the house. My brother threw his stick into the woods and about 30 sec later a stick came flying out of the woods and landed in the road behind us. Everybody ran for the house. It was about midnight. We closed all the windows and locked the doors. We didn't even look outside till morning. We did not find any tracks, just some broken branches. There were a couple more times walking around town at night we would smell or hear something or our friends would tell us about weird stuff that happened to them. Tthis lasted for about 2 yrs then stopped. I hope it isnt too late to report this. I hope it helps, thank you.
