I was staying at Warner Springs Ranch for the weekend. This area is in the hills/mountains of north San Diego county, about an hour from downtown San Diego. Warner Springs is a very small community, not even a town, where there is a golf course and Warner Springs Ranch, which is where we were. A lot of camping and horseback riding goes on there.

REPORT DETAIL

Description of event: My boyfriend and I were going for an early morning horseback ride. As we approached the stable area, we noticed that the horses were running around in the arena like something had scared them real bad. We thought maybe it was a coyote or a mountain lion, as they are in that area some times. As we got about 100 feet away from the main arena where the horses all stay, this extremely bad smell blew our way, not anything like horse manure. It was like a wet carpet smell but stronger than that, but that's what it compared to. We both turned in the direction the wind was blowing (from what looked to be northwest) to see if there was a dead animal or something. That's when we saw it. It was crouched down about 200 or so feet from us, on one knee, picking through some rocks on the side of this small hill that is next to the barn area (to the right of where we were standing by the arena). This thing at first looked like a bear (or that's what I thought at first). But after we stared for what seemed like minutes, it stood up on two legs. It saw us several times before it stood up, didn't seem scared or agressive either, just curious. Once it stood up, it just started walking down the hill towards the direction of the highway (south or southwest from where we were). We watched it walk for quite a bit, even running around the barn after it was out of sight from where we were. It took really big steps, but walked pretty much like a person. I can't say how tall it was, but my boyfriend is 6'3" and it was much taller than him, at least a foot taller. We had never heard of bigfoot creatures in this area, only seen things in books and they were always in Washington or near there. I finally just today searched the internet to see if there had ever been anything like this around here before, and to my shock (and relief, cause we thought we might have been crazy), there have been sightings in San Diego county before. What an experience!
