REPORT DETAIL

Description of event: I was 9 years old at the time and my memory is still pretty good after all those years ago. My family at that time like to go camping alot. It was mid-summer and my Dad wanted to go somewhere different then Missouri (that's where i am from), then the usual state parks in Missouri or Colorado.

I believe it was the 3rd or 4th day camping out and my Dad, little sister and me when fishing near the lake (wish I could remember which one) and I got tired of fishing and wanted to take a walk which I still do now even though I am in my 40's. My sister didn't want to go, so I left on my own. Dad told me not to go far.

I remember walking for awhile (never listen to Dad) on a path from the lake into the woods and looking at things and listening to nature. When I smell this odor like rotten remains of an animal, I know that smell pretty well and I started walking again and heard this grunting sound and looked over to my left and seeing this HUGE BIG BLACK figure squatting down in the brush and I was not sure what it was at first and it stared at me and like a kid I stared back, didn't know what to say or do, so I remembered turning back around to go back to the lake and I kept turning around to watch it as I was walking and it just stare at me and kept making this grunting sounds.

I then started running. It NEVER chased me or came after me. I got to the lake and Dad and my sister was packing up to go back the camp to my Mom, when I ran up to them telling what I saw and my Dad said it must of been a bear or some else. I said, "No Dad this was no bear". I kept thinking when it was time to go home, "Is it going to follow me home". I remember seeing it as we were driving home, even when we reached Kansas I see it standing in the hay fields. I know that was all in my head as a kid, but I remembered that. If I saw this creature in '73 in a Crecent City State Park, surely somebody else saw it too.
