Description of event: My son and I had had an experience off of the Fox River in the U.P. near Seney I have gone camping in that particular area for the last 15 years and have never had anything like this happen before. It was just before bow hunting season about 2 days before opening day I was stalking down one of the many logging roads hunting for ruffed grouse at about 9 am when I came around a bend I first noticed an odor of strong musk smell strong enough for me to track (it was strong enough even for a humans nose to follow) as I followed the scent trail I notice an inordinate amount of mosquitoes along the scent trail, (Has any one else come across this?) I could also see the moss disturbed by some one or thing walking on two legs there was no clear tracks just impressions on the moss and it seemed to be very careful not to walk any where it would leave a clear track, the stride was easily twice mine, at about 2 minutes following the trail I got this over whelming feeling of being watched the smell was now even more pronounced I was not really terrified but had this feeling of apprehension something I never felt in the woods it was like not feeling welcome in some ones home (I am a retired Detroit police officer this feeling is the same when I would go to police run and the people did not want the police there)I backed out the way I came and thought nothing more about it, until late that night I awoke to the sounds of heavy foot steps, as I sat in my sleeping bag in the tent I could clearly hear these foot steps coming closer. It then made a half circle around my camp (by the way the fire had died down to embers by this time I believe the fire had made what ever keep its distance) on the north east of the camp which was down wind at the time unknown to me at the time was that my son also had been awoken at the same time and was listening also, and said "dad do you here that" right when he said that the foot steps became silent, I was planning on waiting until the foot steps came close and taking a peek but his words made whatever it was go silent, we laid there for a while and drifted back to sleep. I did not see anything, but what ever was there I know for sure, it was walking on two legs had a massive stride, and was intelligent enough to turn the tables on me and track me to my camp site, later after doing some research on the net I found that they will take to trees I was concentrating on the smell and moss if I had looked up I think now that this animal was hiding in a tree maybe almost above me.
