Campers hear upright creature walking near campsite

Location: It having been so long ago i am unsure the area has not been built up with housing. Approximately a quarter of a mile west and downhill from our location was a cave entrance which an adult could enter easily. One could move into it about 10 feet before encoutering a chasm of unknown depth and a cave -in.
REPORT DETAIL
Description of event: My friends and i were camping on a hill, in a semi clear area of my cousins farm. We heard noises coming from the woods to our north, a deer bolted past our campfire and we could hear movement as if our campsite was being walked around. We thought that possibly it could have been a bear,so we loaded our rifles and after about ten minutes or so the sounds began to fade. Whatever it was ,had to have been large and our impression was it was walking upright.
