REPORT DETAIL

Description of event: My husband and I were camping on Father's Day weekend last year. We've gone to this campground several times in the past with other members of our family.

We canoed earlier in the day, and saw alot of wildlife that we didn't see during previous times. We saw several deer, poisonous snakes, and we missed a black bear crossing the river by about 5 minutes, also a weasel and alot of water fowl.

Anyway, we went to sleep about 10 o'clock. I was having a pretty sound sleep until something startled me awake. Some really loud noise woke me up. I sat up and was trying to figure out what I heard when I heard this scream/wail/howl noise, it was pretty loud and I had ear plugs in. (My husband snores) I don't know if that was the initial noise that woke me up, I'm guessing it was.

I sat there, took out my ear plugs and listened trying to figure out what it was. I listened to it do that about two more times and then I woke up my husband. He listened to it a couple times, and we decided to get dressed and get outside the tent and check it out.

We got outside and it was really bright with the full moon. We noticed that there was one family still around their fire and they were really quiet. When we got out there, the noise had been moving down river and we could hear cows going nuts down that way on our side of the river. We walked down to the river but by that time it was farther away and we stopped hearing it. We stayed up a little while but didn't hear anything else.

The real crappy part of it is that we had our camcorder in the car but I think we were concentrating so hard on this noise and trying to figure out what we were hearing that we didn't think of it until it was gone. We talked to the people ( 2 women and a man)we saw and they heard it also, but didn't really have much to say. One of the women told my husband she thought it was a "ufo", whatever that meant.

We went back the next month but didn't hear anything. I've been in the woods since I was a kid and never heard anything even remotely like that. Previously we camped further up river from there in the woods in the "trough", primitive campsites. I'm not sure I'd do that again, unless there were more people with us.
