Location: This happened in Grant, Oregon on a hiking trail that was off of a gravel road that led into the forest and up a small mountain. Their were some very thick patches of bushes with a very dense forest.

REPORT DETAIL

Description of event: My friend and I decided that we would take a hike before we headed back home in Oklahoma since it would be a long drive. We parked in off to the side of a rural gravel road that led into a dense forest. About thrity minutes into the hike, we could hear heavy footsteps in the dense underbrush off to the side of the trail. We took no notice of this kept hiking until we came to a cliff that stood about 80ft. We sat down and began to have a snack and a drink of water. All of a sudden, we began to notice the same heavy footsteps that we had encountered earlier. I began to feel a bit edgy and so did my friend so we moved. At about 5:00 it started to get dark so we turned around and headed back up the trail. I stopped immediately at the edge of the forest to discover man broken trees and small pieces of hair caught on a thorn bush. I took these pieces of hair and put them in a plastic bag. As we continued our way through the dense underbrush, a large rock was flung across the trail with great force. By then my friend and I were starting to get scared. We hurried along the trail trying to get back to our car as quickly as possible. All of a sudden something started making a screaming/whooping sound that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. As soon as these sounds started, they stopped. As we neared our car, a creature ventured out across the path and looked at us. We stared at each other for a while, neither of us moving an inch. It seemed just as curious about us as we were about it. The creature then made kind of a low grunt/growl sound and darted back into the underbrush. Startled and scared we hurried back to our car and drove back to a small town. We talked to one of the locals and told him our story. He told us that this creature had been sighted many times by hikers on that trail for the last few months. I have been back to Oregon once onto that same trail but did not encounter this creature again although I did have a feeling that something was there.
