REPORT DETAIL

Description of event: At the time I was 8 months pregnant with my first child. It was a hot summer and we were sleeping with the windows open. I am a light sleeper so am easily awakened, unlike my husband who slept through the whole thing. I know the time because there was a clock by the bed. I was awakened by the sound of footsteps, and the worst smell I've ever smelled in my life.
The footsteps were coming down the road towards our house. They were heavy, almost like a jarring sound when they hit the ground. It wasn't a fast pace, almost like a casual walk. I remember thinking that whatever it was it was huge. As the footsteps got closer I could hear heavy breathing. I began to fear it was gonna come into our house. I couldn't move. I was afraid of going into labor. I whispered to my husband but could not wake him. I kept thinking our dog would bark or our neighbors German Shepard would bark, but there was no barking from any of the dogs.
The smell was like wet animal that had rolled in garbage and poop. It was horrible. It walked past our house on down the road. It was a dead end 3 houses down then woods for miles. I could tell by the footsteps that it had walked to the very end at which point some dogs began barking like crazy. A few seconds later there were 3 gunshots. Then I heard the most incredible scream I've ever heard in my life. It wasn't human. At the same exact time as the scream I heard the footsteps running. It was running and screaming going off into the distance until I could hear it no more. I know if I had looked out the window I would have seen it. I was too scared.
