REPORT DETAIL

Description of event: Myself and my friend Jimmy were driving in on the only drivable trail. We were about a 1/2 mile from the area that we park our truck when we noticed several deer tracks on the left side of the trail. Then we spotted continuous bigfoot tracks on the right side of the trail. They went down into a drainage but they started in a brushy area close to where we park our truck. There were 1/2 mile long continuous tracks. What was strange was when you looked straight down into several of the tracks you could see a smaller print inside of the bigger one. Our theory is that the mother had a juvenile walk in her tracks, behind her, teaching it how to stalk and hunt deer. We took several pictures with a tape measure next to the prints and then we drove to our normal spot and parked the truck.
Now I believe these animals should be protected but studied and left alone. It will be a sad day when a body is brought in but I all so believe I will protect myself as a last resort.
We got out of the truck and loaded our weapons and supplies and walked in the direction of a big pine tree with broken branches, the opening of the trail of the gorge. We walked in about 60 yards and found a good spot to mount a trail camera. As I started mounting the trail camera, Jimmy said, "Do you hear that? Do you hear that?"
We heard branches being broken on a high ridge to our right about 200 yards away. As I turned to look at Jimmy, he had my S&W 500 mag pulled out and was looking up the hill. I replied, "You know what that is? They are looking at us." and I smiled and continued hooking up the trail camera. As I was programing the trail camera Jimmy asked me how many pine trees are up next to that big boulder. I said, just one. The pine tree is first and then the big boulder. He said, are you sure? I said, I am positive. He said, it looks like another tree behind the branches of the first tree.
At that instance Jimmy said, "Oh my god! It just moved!" I turned to look at Jimmy and he was looking through a pair of Leupold 12/50 binoculars. He said he could make out its legs from the knees down and the mid section. It looked very lean with at least 4 ft. wide shoulders. The face was behind the top branch of the pine tree but he could make out its cone shaped head sticking above the top branch and its color was reddish. He turned to look at me for about 5 seconds and, when he turned back, it was gone.
Once the camera was set we baited the area in front of the trail camera with a small plastic bottle of honey in a tree branch,a small bottle of garlic in the tree branches, and a 1 lb. package of bacon in the tree branches. I wiped all containers off with a non-scented baby wipe, hoping to get fingerprints later. Then I put some apples, with bites in them, in the tree branches and the rest of the apples on the ground with a bag of fresh blueberries and strawberries. We then headed down the trail to exit.
While walking we noticed we were being trailed from the high ridge. Every time we stopped, they stopped and I heard 2 whistles and a Whop! Whop! and branches being broken. We made it back to the truck and, as I was putting away my stuff, Jimmy walked up in front of the truck about 15 yards and heard a very low thumping noise and returned to the truck. I asked him to cover me as I wanted to go in the bushy area where I had parked my truck on Thanksgiving. They were using that area as a junction for trails and where the prints started that went up the only drivable trail for a 1/2 mile. I wanted to get some more pictures.
While in that area we noticed a stool sample. I put on rubber gloves and put it a big trash bag and its in my deep freezer to date. The stool was 3 1/2 ft. into a small trail that had their prints going through it. It was tall brush. I have been a hunter since I was 6 years old and an avid outdoorsman all my life. So has Jimmy. Neither one of us has ever seen stool like this before. It was too big to be bear scat. Even a grizzly's scat. It wasn't cow dung either. It had too much shape to it. It was starting to get dark so we decided to go home.
