Description of event: In 1974 I was backpacking in the Desolation Wilderness area in California with a group of hikers. I had fallen down a steep embankment and injured myself. So early the next morning I went down to Loon Lake to bathe. I screamed a few times while I was entering the lake because the water was icy cold and I was in terrible pain from my fall. I felt like I was being watched but I saw no one. However as I was wading out of the lake about 100 feet away from me, standing partially behind a tree was a huge hairy creature. It had a large stone in it's right hand. I ran back to camp and we left the area as soon as possible. For the rest of our hike we were occasionally woke at night by the sound of a baby crying. On the hike back, me and another hiker were intermittently pelted with stones and the occasional pine-cone from the left side of the trail.
