REPORT DETAIL

Description of event: My wife and I are very experienced Sierras campers and hikers. On this particular hike we climbed above Emerald Bay on a steep trail then continued on a moderate climb up a relatively smooth "straight" trail that was easy to walk on and we were young and strong we walked fairly quickly, but it kept us breathing hard. We heard some whistling in the trees just out of sight, which meant sort of in the rocks maybe 50 yards away something followed us for quite a ways on our way to Granite Lake. It made a weird whistling sound unlike a bird and after hearing some of the recorded "Bigfoot sounds" online, I recognize them as primate whistles like gibbons whooping or more like humans whistle through their lips. Anyway we started to become concerned when we realized that it was following us and we could not identify the whistle. What ever it was could move soundlessly through extremeley rugged granite boulder and treed hillside at the same speed as we hiked up the trail. It was a very strong animal and the only thing we could think of was a cougar so we left.
