Description of event: The area has been know to have many animal species (cougars, deer, coyote, raccoon, and even bears). We are at the base of the Blue Mountains so animal sightings and sounds are fairly common. I was in my house and heard the neighborhood dogs going crazy, then they were quiet and my dog was acting strange. I went outside to see why my dog was whimpering and whining. That's when I heard a strange sound coming from about 100 yards away in a wooded area by my house. I grabbed my phone and recorded the sounds. I have lived in this neighborhood my whole life and hearing animal noises at night is very common, but I have never heard a sound like this before. At first I thought it had to be a coyote, but it didn't sound like one after listening closely, and the dogs would never act in such a way to coyote noises. During the recording my dog was very frightened and was whining as the sound got closer. The sound was almost like a person cackling or howling. It's a strange sound to explain. After about 2 mins the sounds got very close and my dog became so frightened he peed himself. After that I figured I should go inside and close the door. Another thing I noticed was the typical deer we see every night were not seen around for a couple of days after the incident.
