REPORT DETAIL

Description of event: Camping at the Emerald Forest campground with my boyfriend - space 33 I think? We were camping during the week and there were no other tent campers in the campground, just a few RVs across the little creek. On the second night there, I got woken up to what sounded like a large branch falling. Couldn't fall right back asleep because I was cold, so was just lying there listening to my boyfriend snore when I hear another loud bang, like a branch falling again - this time a short distance off to my left (the way our tent was set up, when lying down we would be facing towards the tent door, facing hwy 101) , followed by first a deep sounding roar, and then from what sounded like maybe across the hwy (101) came a few of higher pitched screams - just a pitch or two deeper than the sound of a peafowl when it cries, which is what I first thought it was, until I heard it call again (sounded like it was either up a hill across the highway, or in a tree?) I asked the campground store clerk the next morning about the 'falling branches' and screams - what they could have been, and if she had heard them, but she was reluctant to talk about it at all.
