Ralph Munson has an old tale concerning his uncle Wendel, who was driving
a truck for the Bend-Portland line in 1962 or 1963. He was driving the
blunt
nose cab-over truck on the east slope of Mt. Hood, about 15-25 miles
east of
the crest, and driving east In the evening, it not being quite dark
yet. He
stopped when something jumped in the middle of the road, a deer he thought
at first. Wendel says he does not drink, and that an animal that looked
like a gorilla, or more like an orangutan, came up to the truck and
looked
through the front window, then through the side window. Then it grabbed
the
cab of the truck and started to shake it. Wendel honked the horn and
flashed
the lights, and the thing ran away. It ran up the hill, a sheer bank,
very
brushy..."and it just ran right up it." The thing had a man's
shape and a
man's hands and feet, but had a massive amount of long brownish-orange
hair,
reminded him of an orang.
