"This is one nobody's gonna' believe," Bud said, because he had been
coming home from a party, and had a few drinks. It was 1948, and he was
driving home from the party in Dairy, Or., halfway back to Bly. 'It was in
the middle of the road,' he said, 'a monkey, only about 2 1/2 feet high.' He
swung wide to avoid hitting it and drove into the ditch. He doesn't know why
it didn't run, 'just squatted there in the middle of the road...when I first
saw it, it was only 50 feet away. A car following me stopped too, but they
said they hadn't seen anything,' and said something about his drinking.
