DATE: Late 1970's & 1980's
TIME: All Daylight Sightings
LOCATION: Oregon, Lane County, McKenzie River Valley
TERRAIN: Wooded
OBSERVED:
I've lived here a number of years and have heard a number of reports
of sightings in the upper McKenzie valley. Two of the sightings occured
near Linton Lake in the Three Sisters Wilderness:
In the
first case, a high school teacher was on a solitary day hike to Linton
Lake when she noticed what she first thought was a very large man striding
down the opposite shore. She soon realized that this creature was covered
in fur and was far too large to be a man. It did not see her as she
was standing in the shadows of the forest gazing across the lake. She
watched it stride down the lakeshore for a minute or so before it turned
and walked into the forest. In telling her story she used the term "massive"
several times in describing her amazement at the size of this creature.
She also related a sense of awe at encountering a creature which she
had previously regarded as myth, yet she felt no fear of it. This occured
in the late 70s.
In the
other case, which occurred about ten years later, two fisherman were
hiking to a small lake near Linton Lake when they came up behind what
they thought was a bear feeding on something in a meadow. As they approached,
it stood up and turned to face them and they found themselves face to
face with a seven ft tall BF. They stood facing this creature at a distance
of maybe 100 ft not knowing what to do.Finally one of the fellows started
fumbling in his jacket for a 22 he was carrying when his friend yelled
at him, " Are you nuts?, Don't even think about it!" At this point the
BF reached down and slung a dear carcass over it's shoulder and walked
off into the woods. The two fellows turned and fled the opposite direction
back to their truck.
A third
case involves a young couple, who are now married, who were skinny dipping
in Blue River Reservoir when they noticed what they described as a 4ft
tall monkey on the shore. The gal screamed and it fled up the bank and
into the forest.
