Description of event: When I was 10 years old I had an experience that could have been a cougar behind me or something else. I had to go to school by myself that day--my brother, who is 4 years older, was sick. We lived in a small house at the side of a logging road about 1.75 mi. the paved road. That is where the school bus stopped. Anyway, on my way home after school about half way home I heard someone or something in the brush to my right toward the creek. I tried to determine if it was 2 or 4 legged. It sounded like 2 to me. I started to run and then I didn't hear anything and stopped dead still to listen. Then the noise was on the left up the embankment in the trees. I ran again, hard and fast. Again no sound and again I stopped to listen. Then there was noise in the brush to my right again. I started running again and quickly came to the clearing before the house. That is where it apparently stopped. I was near hysteria while trying to tell my mother about the incident. She and my brother went back down the road to see if they could find evidence about 10 or 15 minutes later. Mom said there was a very strong smell in the air and tracks on the road. She said they were very big cougar tracks. But it didn't sound like a four footed creature to me. I started having nightmares after that of a creature that looks like what people call Bigfoot. But I have never had any nightmares about a cougar. I didn't hear anything about Bigfoot until several years later so the dreams could not have been about stories of the creature. I think stopping dead still when it was on the road behind me saved my life. Mary in ABQ
