Location: We were camping in Lake Mary Campground. It's just north of Mammoth Lakes, the town. We were in a spot that we call the island. Right across from the bathroom.

Description of event: Myself, my husband and two of our sons were camping as we do every summer at Lake Mary. We have a pop-up tent/trailer. We had gone to bed and we were trying to go to sleep. Hubby was out. There were some partiers up at a site on a little hill above us. All of a sudden I thought they must have come down by the lake because now they were closer by and making what I thought was an obnoxious noise: Whoop-whoooop! Several times. Next thing I know there is this blood-curdling scream! It scared the crap out of us! My boys were especially freaked because we had recently seen "The Blair Witch Project". The reason they thought of that was because there was rock-clacking going on also (which was also in the movie). I'm a visual person and I was really getting pissed because I was imagining these drunks having a bear cub trapped and somehow hurting or scaring it. Well, recently, somehow I ended up on the BFRO website and read a report in which the person described exactly what we heard: A cross between a cub in distress and a possessed woman. The hair stood up on the back of my neck and I began to weep when I realized what we had experienced. I am obsessed! I read everything I get my hands on. I just want to know who they are. I want to see them! Thank you for this website. (It was the closest thing to a spiritual experience in my mind. I don't know why...)
