Description of event: This happened to my Dad and two friends in November 1972. Camped next to Brown’s tract pond, they were there for hunting… but being older, they weren’t really doing much except going out a short ways and looking around.
Late one evening, they were in their little camper, playing cards. One of the men had just come back inside from going out to "use the bathroom" when suddenly they heard the most powerful and unusual scream that lasted perhaps 10-15 seconds (although one man thought it lasted much longer). They were very shaken as it was an incredible sound. These men (my Dad in particular - a former marine) were outdoorsmen who camped and hunted the Adirondacks for a couple decades. I never saw my Dad shook up over anything but I remember he just couldn’t believe the sound volume and said he thought something was going to be on them in a few seconds, but nothing else happened.
They hurried, fast as they could after they recovered their composure and got some flashlights on the large rocks behind them, but it was wet and dark, and nothing showed itself and nothing was in evidence the next morning, as they looked for tracks or anything, but found absolutely nothing. These guys were stunned and mystified even when they returned home to western New York a few days later. We never could figure out what it was, but your Whitehall sighting gives me the creeps now.
