Description of event: A friend and I loaded a couple of rifles in his vw squareback to go up some logging roads, to try to find someones marijuana crops and pick some. We drove these barren logging roads for about an hour and decided to pull over and smoke a joint. As he sat there waiting for me to roll the joint, we heard what sounded like rocks rolling down the hill behind us. I looked over my left shoulder and probably 100 feet or so behind us I saw what I thought was a bear laying on the road, apparently dazed from it's slide or fall down the mountain. As this "bear" stood up, it turned toward us and just stared. I then realized instantly that this was no bear or ape I've ever seen before.This thing was probably 8-9 feet tall and maybe 600-800 pounds. I was so terrified. I even forgot we had rifles to fend this thing off or defend myself. It stood there looking at us. It seemed like a lifetime, but was probably only 5-10 seconds. It then turned down the mountain and kinda slid on its butt. As he did this, my partner started the car and we got the hell out of there. We didn't say a word to each other going back to town nor did we smoke any pot.
